This work highlights the concept of Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity) in Islam, teaching that certain good deeds continue to benefit a person after death. Acts like charitable projects, spreading knowledge, or raising righteous children ensure perpetual rewards. Understanding this encourages believers to leave a lasting legacy of goodness and seek deeds that outlive them.
Islam teaches that while most deeds of a person cease at death, certain actions continue to bring rewards even after passing. The Prophet ﷺ highlighted these in multiple authentic narrations. Acts such as ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, and having righteous children who pray on behalf of the deceased continue to earn reward. Ongoing charity may include donations given during a lifetime, building a masjid, providing a house for travelers, or digging a water source—any good deed that continues to benefit others. Knowledge shared or taught, including writing books or educating others, grants ongoing reward as long as it continues to be applied after one’s death. A child who lives righteously and prays for the deceased also ensures that the parent’s reward continues.
Scholars like Al-Mundhiri and Ibn Al-Qayyim explain that these deeds continue because the person initiated or contributed to them during their lifetime. The reward flows from the ongoing benefit others receive, whether it’s through knowledge, charitable work, or supplications by children. This principle reflects Allah’s justice and mercy, rewarding even the smallest contributions to enduring good.
